What is lead capture?
Lead capture is collecting a potential customer's contact details, such as name, email or phone number, along with context about what they want, so a business can follow up. On websites it happens through forms, pop-ups and increasingly chat, where details can be gathered naturally in the middle of answering the visitor's question.
Also called: chatbot lead capture, lead generation
Lead capture, explained
Most website visitors leave without buying or getting in touch. Lead capture gives interested visitors a low-friction way to stay in contact. Forms are the traditional method, but chat has an advantage: the visitor is already engaged and asking a question, and the context of that question makes the lead far more useful to the sales team.
Good chat lead capture feels like service, not a toll gate. Answer the question first, then offer something useful, such as a quote, a call or an update when stock returns, in exchange for contact details. Asking for an email before answering anything tends to drive visitors away.
Capture only what you will use, record what the visitor agreed to, and do not add people to marketing lists without the consent your jurisdiction requires.
Leads are only valuable if they reach someone quickly. Route them to your CRM or inbox with the conversation attached, and follow up while the visitor still remembers the chat.
How to measure it
Also track how many captured leads were contacted, and how quickly.
